Report

On January 15, 2018, Young Indians (YI) of Salesian college Siliguri conducted a programme called 'Project Masoom' at Roy Colony Government School, Siliguri. 'Project Masoom' creates awareness about various forms of abuses faced by children: Physical, Sexual and Mental. The students were pleasantly excited to welcome YI members. The YIs used their creative and homely ways to interact with the students making them comfortable and interactive during the session. The teachers were very cooperative and their support added to the success of the programme. Sharing of biscuits and chocolates added colour to the day as the YIs and the students formed one group of brothers and sisters. A short film KOMAL was screened; it helped the children to know good and bad touch. Children felt empowered to resist and react to situations that are unsafe and insecure. The students taught them to speak their minds and share their problems/worries and informed them of people who could assist and support them. They were informed of the helpline for children 1098 and the various facilities offered by CHILDLINE, an all India organization for Children. They were further told about the need to take their parents and teachers as guides to keep them well informed of their various activities and involvement with others. The children felt enriched with the whole programme.
